Westbeach construction timeline

These beachside serviced apartments will be well equipped with a private kitchen and large open plan living space and hi-spec features like flat screen TVs, Wi-Fi and underfloor heating.

Westbeach is partly operational and is already TripAdvisor’s top ranked accommodation option in Westward Ho!. It also holds a four-star accreditation from VisitEngland, the national tourism board.

Facilities under construction include a luxury spa and Westward Ho!’s only indoor swimming pool. The property will also have a central complex with a rooftop swimming pool and sunken bar.

Construction timeline

28 May 2017

  • Steel frame for central core going up

6 April 2017

  • Concrete pour for Phase 4 complete
  • Steel frame starting to be built from mid-May. Central core steel frame will be built first
  • This will be followed by simultaneous installations for Phase 3 and 5, and then Phase 4 and 6

5 April 2017

  • Cages in place for concrete pour for Phase 4’s foundations

1 February 2017

  • Roadway retaining structure complete
  • Steel frame in factory being made, ready for delivery from March 2017
  • Once cast, upper floor ground beams will be set and foundation works will be complete
  • Engineering bricks in place, ready to start to form substructure on phases 3 and 5
  • Total cost for ground works and civil engineering around £2m of which work for £1.7m has been completed
  • All storm drains are being put into the site currently – to be finished prior to the steel frame arriving on site in March
  • Two teams will be able to work on parts of the steel frame concurrently. Core to be worked on first, then phases 3 and 5, then the second team can begin work on phases 4 and 6
  • Expected date of completion of build per phase is below, with phases 3 and 5 expected before Easter 2018. The remaining phases are likely to open together before the summer season gets fully underway in June 2018
  • Expected completion dates are: Phase 3 – February 2018; Phase 4 – March 2018; Phase 5 – April 2018; Phase 6 – May 2018

30 November 2016

  • Phase 3 retaining walls almost complete, to enable roads around to be constructed
  • Phase 4 ground beams under way

2 November 2016

  • Ground beams and concrete pads for phase 3, 5, 6 and central core complete

7 December 2015

  • Phase II completed
  • All building work completed; buildings signed
  • Ready to accept guests at Easter
  • Furniture to be fitted ahead of the March/Spring season
  • Phase III: Foundations complete
  • Phase IV: Foundations to be completed end of January
  • Phases IV & VI: Foundations to be completed late spring
  • Roof on expected August 2016

5 August 2015

  • New car park and access road complete
  • Site around block 1 and 2 opened
  • Interconnecting road surfacing and paving being completed
  • Final fix items ex. Smoke detectors to be installed
  • Snagging list and exting (ex. Electrics) to be completed
  • Builders cleans carried out on 50% of the block
  • Carpets and furniture to be installed
  • Building Control arranging final inspections for sign off

  • Infrastructure works and foundations are progressing well on Phase III
  • Majority of ground work almost complete
  • Designs being finalized on remaining phases, with foundation works due to start in two weeks
  • Phase II apartments nearing completion
  • Builders clean scheduled for third week in July
  • Carpets and furnishings to follow
  • All hard landscaping and parking around block one and connecting top block two is now almost complete
  • Operational by end of July

  • Installation of kitchens, fixtures and fittings, decorations and completion of tiling due to start shortly

8 August 2014

  • First fix electrical, plumbing and heating progressing well
  • Outer masonry skin, lift shaft and balcony sections are underway

  • The superstructure completion is still on target for end April. This is where the build reaches the roof wall plate level, ready for the roof to go on.
  • Scaffolding being erected
  • Timber frame being manufactured at factory

  • Substructure work is progressing well and set to be completed by 4th April. Scaffolding will be erected this week and the superstructure is set to commence on 7th April

  • Work on the superstructure will commence on the 24th March
